Three men have been bailed after an incident in Colchester in which it had initally been thought a man had been assaulted and abducted.
Police were contacted shortly after 9:30pm on Friday, October 19 following reports a man had been assaulted on Clarendon Way by two men and then bundled into a black Ford Mondeo and driven away.
On Saturday lunchtime (October 20), the 26-year-old man (not 27 as previously stated) contacted police to confirm he was safe and well.
Officers met him in Frinton and soon worked out that he had not been the victim of any crime.
However, following further investigations, officers discovered another man had been assaulted.
He was found nearby with numerous injuries to his body.
He was taken by ambulance to Colchester General Hospital, he has since been released.
A 26-year-old man from Colchester, a 17-year-old boy from Clerkenwell in east London and a 20-year-old man from the Clacton area were all arrested on suspicion of kidnap.
All three have subsequently been released on police bail until Tuesday, December 4 pending further enquiries.
