BEAUTY BIO

The roots of my hair are pretty oily - I need to wash them everyday (or else go hard on the dry shampoo) to avoid a greasy slick. However, the ends of my hair have a tendency to get dry due to heat styling and repeat balayage, meaning I never know which hair products to use. My roots certainly don't need any more moisture, but my ends are calling our for nourishment. Here's hoping Function Of Beauty is able to create a magic formula that caters to both needs...

THE REVIEW

The process starts on their website, where you fill in a short quiz on your hair type, your hair needs and your hair goals. It's a really enjoyable process: you simply have to tick off whether you have straight, wavy, curly or coily hair, then whether it's fine, medium or coarse and your scalp moisture level.

Then you can select five hair goals - mine were to fix my split ends, volumise, control oil and reduce frizz. Then it's time for the really fun bit. You can enter your name or initials as well as choose the colour of your formula, so you can really up your #shelfie game. I chose a sky blue shade, but there's a whole rainbow of options, including jet black, which looked pretty punky, and a dye-free option if you prefer to keep it simple. You can even select to have a silicone-free formula.

Next, you get to choose the fragrance. From fruity smells (pear, peach and pineapple), to florals and refreshing eucalyptus, to fragrance-free, there's one to suit every scent preference. Eucalyptus and lavender are the brand's two all-natural scents, while peach has the best reviews. I opt for florals - a blend of white peony and wild flowers - because I always gravitate towards them when choosing a perfume.

Finally, you choose the size you want and whether you want to repeat the order automatically every few weeks or months, so you're never caught off guard.

Delivery takes around a week, and there's no option for next day delivery - a disappointment when instant gratification is the name of the game - but it was worth the wait. I love the fact my name was on my shampoo and conditioner, and the baby blue colour was even more aesthetically pleasing in person. The smell was slightly sweeter than I was expecting from a floral fragrance, but delightful nonetheless.

My hair felt healthy, clean and was noticeably shiny after the first use - the shampoo removed product build up (day two dry shampoo) with ease without stripping the condition from my hair and the conditioner felt rich and luxurious, detangling and restoring hydration instantly. And although my roots still looked a little oily on the second day, it was much less so than usual.

It's also worth mentioning that Function of Beauty also sell purple shampoo, a leave-in conditioner, a hair mask, a hair serum and a body wash and lotion duo. Their offering is growing by the minute, and we couldn't be happier about it.
