JB Perrette - Variety500 - Top 500 Entertainment Business Leaders

Perrette spent the better part of the past year since the Discovery-WarnerMedia merger planning for the launch of combined Discovery+ and HBO Max product Max. It debuted in May to both excitement and mixed opinions about the loss of “HBO” from the streamer’s name. It also saw a 1.8 million initial dip in streaming subscribers, which WBD had predicted, as 4 million customers were subscribed to both Discovery+ and HBO Max and some Discovery+ subs were likely to cancel that service and switch to the rebranded Max. Still, Warner Bros. Discovery is up 3.7 million streaming customers year over year at a time when holding on to those users is harder than ever. A big win for Perrette this year came with the launch of “Harry Potter” franchise video game “Hogwarts Legacy” in February, which earned $850 million in its first two weeks.
