Serious assault in Yeovil

Police are investigating a serious assault in Yeovil on Saturday October 29, 2011. The incident happened at around 3am in Middle Street. The victim, aged 22, was punched several times, fell to the floor and hit his head.

The victim was treated by the ambulance and taken to Yeovil District Hospital before being transferred to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol. He has a serious head injury and remains in a critical condition.

Two men, both aged 18 and from Yeovil, have been arrested on suspicion of GBH and are currently on bail pending further enquiries.

An investigation is underway and police are appealing for witnesses. The incident happened when people would have been out socialising in Yeovil town centre and taxi drivers would also have been in the area. Detectives are asking for witnesses or anyone else with information to come forward.

Speaking about the incident, Detective Constable Emma Mason said:

"This was a serious assault in which the victim was struck a number of times and is now in hospital with a serious head injury. A thorough investigation is taking place and I would urge anyone with information to come forward and speak to us."
